A Burial in Seven Births - Mt. Moon
One day back in May, I noticed that a group on Last.fm I had joined awhile back, called basically, I just wanted my own group…no longer had a group leader. Being initially drawn to the group by the animated Psyduck avatar (no longer animated due to suckiness on Last.fm’s part, though an homage remains), I took over the leadership position. Some time after this, Jakob Battick...

Just Pretend You Are a Pegasus - Panda steps in...
I first came across Christian Filardo’s music, otherwise known as Panda steps in chocolate, when I decided to type in the word ‘chocolate’ on Last.fm tag radio. Low-and-behold, what came into my ears next was “Panda meets a girl”. Being an instrumental artist myself, I was intrigued by this song, a pleasant electronic tune interspersed with muffled, fuzzy vocals....

Gong...and You
The name of the band is Gong and the album is You. Released in 1974, it is a complete space-age trip-out that is recommended for those who like…utter weirdness. I dunno, I suppose anyone into Can or maybe even King Crimson or Pink Floyd might get this, but it’s hard to explain. It has some new age elements, but more like an astral plane-travelling-new age than a granola bar-eating-new...

Significant Songs, Pt. 2
11. “Heaven or Hell” - Salt n’ Pepa (1993): Very Necessary was the first CD that was my own when I was little. I had to choose between it and an Offspring album (Smash, I presume), and I chose Salt n’ Pepa! I don’t remember which songs I liked when I was little, but I like “Heaven or Hell” now, so that’s what I’m going with. Embedding for this...

Significant Songs, Pt. 1
Thought I’d try to put down a list of songs I remember being defining moments or have strong associations with me, and ended up with…60! I’m leaving out quite a lot, and I think I have pared it down to truly significant. If it came out prior to the year I heard it (or before I was born) it means I discovered it through one or more of the following ways: 1) the music video was...

The Coolest Band...That You Didn't Know About 'Til...
It was complete happenstance that I came across it…I was actually in the middle of setting up a MySpace Music page for myself last night, when I went to the official Beatles Myspace to add them. I was looking at the top friends and I spotted thenewno2, with a rather noticable animated avatar (though freaking Blogger won’t let me post the animated one…pfft). I was like “WTF...

Glorious Song Titles
Songs are generally titled based on what is repeated in the chorus, or at least something that is mentioned in the song that is key. But there are plenty of songs that have titles that, while not mentioned explicitly in the song, are essential to understanding the song properly. Take The Velvet Underground’s “Venus in Furs”. Nowhere in the song is the title said, but is implied...
