Jakob Battick and Friends - “Can’t Stand Me Now” (Libertines Cover)

Album is available free on Bandcamp. The dissolution of the group adds an extra dose of sadness to the already poignant The Painful Places Will All Fly From Me. This cover of the Libertines’ classic “Can’t Stand Me Now” is less frantic than the original, bittersweet and simply beautiful to listen to.

The Painful Places Will All Fly From Me’ was originally released in the fall of 2010. The release was initially conceived as a collection of demos, but now feels more fitting as an independent release in and of itself. In a certain sense, it’s as fitting a punctuation at the end of the JB&F sentence as anything could be, finding the songs naked and lonely as they had been in the very first place, but with a certain sense of bittersweet, hopeful passing. All songs written by Jakob Battick in the summer of 2010 except ‘Can’t Stand Me Now’ (by Doherty/Barât and originally performed by The Libertines.)
