Significant Songs, Pt. 2
11. “Heaven or Hell” - Salt n’ Pepa (1993): Very Necessary was the first CD that was my own when I was little. I had to choose between it and an Offspring album (Smash, I presume), and I chose Salt n’ Pepa! I don’t remember which songs I liked when I was little, but I like “Heaven or Hell” now, so that’s what I’m going with. Embedding for this video has been disabled, but you can watch it here.
12. “Come Out and Play (Keep ‘Em Separated) - The Offspring (1994): Embedding for this video has also been disabled (dangnabit!), but it is here.
13. “Violet” - Hole (1994): Something else I would sing to…
14. “Loser” - Beck (1994): I think that Beck, with the Violent Femmes, might have been one of the first concerts I went to! Freaking Universal Music disabled embedding.
15. “Stand in Line” (1995) - The Flaming Lips: Went to a batch of their shows too. I met Wayne Coyne (as well as Beck)! There’s no video for this song, nor Imeem stream. :/
16. “Lethal Lava Land” - Koji Kondo (1996): Most people in the West get their introduction to the sitar through the Beatles. Mine came through Super Mario 64.
17. “Gerudo Valley” - Koji Kondo (1997): This was the beginning of me going into a Japanese music vacuum. I would actually go to this area just to stand around and listen to the theme. XD When I got a nice boombox for Christmas, I also got The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time soundtrack with it.
18. “Oasis” - Gackt (2000): I really liked this guy’s stuff. o_O I think it laid the foundation for my love of Duran Duran.
19. “Street Fighting Man” - Rage Against the Machine (2001): My mom really liked (and still likes) Rage Against the Machine. I was playing Final Fantasy VIII while this song was playing in the living room, and I thought it would go really well with the scene where Squall gets into the car during the parade sequence. XD This is a cover of the Rolling Stones song.
20. “Fallin’” - Alicia Keys (2001): One of the first decent songs I actually heard on popular radio when I started listening to music other than Japanese music agan! I still like her first album, though I never got around to listen to her other stuff. Big time companies don’t allow embedding… *grumbles*
