Independent Music Discoveries: Issue #2
What was formerly called MySpace Music Discoveries is now Independent Music Discoveries, since these are artists found from, and appearing on, other music sites as well; see Issue #1 from the end of January- be sure to recommend the fabulous independent music you have come across as well!

Bette Dillinger - Experimental / House / Rock - Michigan, US
I came across the incredible music of Bette Dillinger after welcoming her into the John Peel group I own on Last.fm. To say the music is out-of-this-world may be a bit of a irony here, from the Last.fm description of Bette being “an alien in a strange land” who “must report to her planet with transmissions”, but it is really incomparable to any other music in particular, though there are touches of world and dance music, along with expertly coordinated samples and lots of experimentalism. Recommended tracks: Perfection, Snake Eyes
Gethin - Alternative Rock / Indie Jazz / Lo-Fi - Australia
Gethin had recommended Rob Hubbard’s music to me last month- I landed on his user page and heard his album, made in the kitchen, which is available for free stream and download on Last.fm. This is cool, cool music, with a bits of Ian Dury and Damon Albarn-esque vibes, even more impressive that it was, indeed, entirely recorded solo, in his kitchen! Dead Flower On The Wall and Fink-a-Fort are my personal favourites.
Nick Silva - Rock / Punk / Blues - California, US
Nick Silva participated in the most recent Stickam event for thenewno2 and it happened that he mentioned his music- I was immediately struck with the track “Mexico” currently available on his MySpace Music player, awash in all of its lo-fi goodness. While influences like Beck and Sonic Youth might be detected from some of his musical sensibilities, I thoroughly dug the aforementioned track and “She’s Got Something” in particular.
Streetxlite - Dubstep / Drum & Bass / Dark Ambient-Industrial - Canada
Streetxlite is the music of Mitch Kesek, an artist that I came across awhile back through Last.fm and/or Gaia- his original material (hear Tracks by Mitch Kesek and MK08) shows a careful study of the best of experimental and industrial music. Recommended tracks: his remix of the Nine Inch Nails track “Beginning of the End”, which rivals the original- listen here!: (NIN) Beginning of the End (Drill Mix), original track: Hospithell
Zapa - Acoustic / Folk / Psychedelic - Spain
This is the music of Miguel Zapata, an artist that came across my MySpace music page recently- he has a lovely delivery of lyrics, and a softly psychedelic style that is perfect chill-out soundtrack. Recommended tracks: Little Miss Juggler, Erase Una Vez (Los Brincos cover)
