Kill and Eat is an experimental jazz duo (Clarke Joyner and Caleb Vogel) who have recently re-released 3-song Green Bushes wrapped in mystery, instead of album artwork; they say “we recognize that formats were made for music, not music for formats”. Title track “Green Bushes”, clocking in at 18 minutes, recalls an improvised and plodding classic jazz sensibility recalling Vince Guaraldi, as well as a touch of Penguin Cafe Orchestra’s minimalist, old-world spirit. “Green Bushes (sketch)” serves as a faster-paced, upbeat take on the themes of the 18 minute version, while “Ellipsis (sketch”) is a melancholy outro that conjures images of somber city life. Inspiring deep introspection, as well as providing charming background music suitable for just about anywhere you might find yourself, Green Bushes proves enigmatic and stands out as a singular, brilliant piece of music in the modern age.
