Post #200 Extravaganza - 100 More Music Websites!
Since I had done this for the 100th post back in March, and last week was A Future in Noise’s anniversary week after all, here I am going to bring you…
100 More Music Websites!
Recommend your personal favorites in the comments if you don’t see them here (or in the previous 100 sites post)- this is an elite selection, I hope you have fun browsing through it!
XWAVE: Post-punk, coldwave, minimal synth, and old-school industrial? Count me in!
Fairtilizer: Described as ‘The Do It Yourself Music Club’, Fairtilizer’s streamlined design and ease of use (particularly for embedding music) make it an option worth checking out- thanks to Ian France for suggesting this one!
We Are Hunted - The Online Music Chart: “The 99 most popular emerging songs in the world”, “A new Top of the Pops”- this is how Billboard would look right now if the people who were downloading and blogging about music were paying for it instead.
3VOOR12: A Dutch website with an excellent selection of music streams and videos. Cases in point: The Horrors (3VOOR12, Amsterdam, April 2nd, 2009) and Natural Snow Buildings (Dwars Festival, Amsterdam, September 28th, 2008).
nuTsie: If you disregard the cavalcade of banner and square advertisements, there are some pretty cool playlists by year (1949-present) and theme (such as ‘Americana Songs’, ‘Metal Guitar Riffs’, and ‘Underrated Rock Songs’) that can be fun to browse through.
Last.fm - Music Advice Center: 4,000+ members strong, the Music Advice Center at Last.fm is described as a “virtual record store”, where you can get advice on what to listen to next by posting in themed Hotdesk topics (Genre & Style, Mood & Occasions, Album & Artist, Jazz, Indie Rock, and so on). It’s because of this very group that I first heard Suicide and the Gun Club.
WFMU: Wonderful podcast archives, including sets from guest DJs (Sonic Boom, for instance) and live streaming radio!
AccuRadio: I couldn’t believe I hadn’t heard of this until just the other day; explore, and be amazed!
FoxyTunes: “A personalized music aggregator. The website aggregates music videos, photos, news, bios and much more from the best music sites all over the Web into one convenient place.”
Ambient Collective
Analog Suicide
Anti-Gravity Bunny
Archived Music Press
Band Logos - Brand Upon the Brain
BowlingStone.com
Hakim Callier
ChordStrike’s Amazon Blog: I bet you didn’t know Amazon had a regularly updated music blog…
Julian Cope Presents Head Heritage
Captain Crawl: “Massic music blog search engine”- yes, indeed!
Crying All The Way To The Chip Shop
Danish Poet
Did it Leak: Find out before everyone else…
Drawer B
Drowned in Sound: Particularly their In Depth series- see also Beyond the Death of the Critic and How the ‘Albums Artist’ is Being Strangled.

Drop.io: Drop.io is gaining currency as an easy way to share files and collaborate amongst musicians with real-time features!
DonkDJ: Not so much a tool as a source of humor- just upload a song into it and see for yourself what it means by ‘putting a donk on it’.
7Zip: Trust me, you need this.
Bandcamp: On its way to become the premiere album downloading/listening destination for savvy artists.
Stereofame and YouBloom: More independent artist destinations- their potential still remains to be scene, though Stereofame’s ‘label’ concept is interesting (anyone can start one on the site, and recruit bands to join for you to promote) and YouBloom’s intent to “become a thriving global economy of artists and friends, inhabited by socially and environmentally conscious individuals and communities from all over the world”, with emphasis on increasing fan bases and opening up promotional opportunities.
ArtistData: Automation of artists’ “social network profiles, concert databases, Twitter, official news feeds…fan newsletters” and more.
Shoutcast: By far, the best platform for finding and hosting free streaming radio stations!
Popcuts: Odd concept involving buying DRM-free songs for 99 cents each, and then getting paid every time a song you’ve bought sells again (with earlier buyers getting more)…hmm…
Gimme Sound: Free downloads site that pays artists based on ad-revenue proceeds instead of fan purchases!
Insound.com
Other Music: The only digital music store that gives me a bit of the feel of an actual indie record store!
Odeo and Yahoo! Media Player: If you don’t have a Wordpress site (which is, admittedly, easier in regards to media players for audio files), try these to embed audio instead!
